Hi all! I just have to say WOW again! I thought Dubrovnik was amazing but the island of Hvar one upped it! And I’d have to say it was mostly due to the really cool tour we took called Secret Hvar Tour. It was recommended by my favorite travel writer Rick Steves!
Our guide literally took us all over the island (which is the longest in Croatia). To the highest peak, to the oldest town (Stari Grad) which was founded over 2,400 years ago, to the town they call Little Venice (Vrboska) and to the largest lavender producing town (Velo Grabljie).
But the highlight of the tour was a “peka” lunch of lamb, veal and potatoes at a private residence. The “peka” preparation is to put the meat and potatoes into a metal pot, put a metal cover over it to seal all the juices inside and cover it with hot coals and let it cook for hours. The flavors of those meats was amazing!
If you ever get to Hvar you have to go on that tour. Our tour guide (Belmin), who was so good and knowledgeable about the island is such a hard worker. He’s also a fireman on the island and in the off-season he goes to Innsbruck to work at the ski resorts. He’s also building an apartment building to be an AirBnB in the next year. So we got his contact info so we can come back to this beautiful island to stay longer!
Well that’s all for now gang. Hope everyone has a great weekend! And yes, the internet is still spotty, so I’ll send some pics later.
