While this trip was a short one, we packed a lot in and had a great time! The weather the whole trip was picture perfect. For the 4th day in a row, it was sunny with a high of about 75, with a light breeze and no humidity. Wish I could bottle it up and take it home for the summer!
Today we spent most of the late morning/early afternoon in the town of Ogunquit. It has a cute little cove with boats in it called Perkins Cove. There were also lots of shops and restaurants in this small little beach town. It is one of the rare places in Maine that has a long sandy beach area. But the highlight of the day was a walk along what’s called “The Marginal Way” and let me tell you, it’s anything but marginal! The name came from it being on the margin between the land and sea. It is a picturesque 1.5 mile paved path right along the rocky coastline with expansive views out across the ocean and beautiful homes situated along its path. The beauty of that walk is worth a trip to this little town but the town itself is great as well.
We then started heading to the airport and did a quick stop in Portsmouth, NH based on someone’s recommendation we met yesterday. It is a waterfront town and has a few “downtown” type streets with shops and restaurants but we weren’t overly impressed with the waterfront area. I’m glad we came to see it but we wouldn’t go back.
We then made it to the airport. I’m not sure if we were just lucky again but I’ve always heard how bad the traffic is trying to get in and out of Boston but we didn’t hit any traffic leaving the airport last Friday or arriving today. We dropped off the rental car and when we got thru security, we found out our flight was delayed but so was the one before us so we jumped on the earlier one since there were standby seats available. Due to her higher priority, Kathy got a first class ticket and I got coach. But being the sweet person she is, she gave me her first class seat and she sat back in coach. I am SPOILED! But then her birthday magic kicked in and there ended up being two first class seats side by
side available and we got to both sit in first class and sit beside each other. It was a perfect ending to a magical weekend getaway!
Not sure yet when our next trip is but we’ll let you know and you can follow along if you’d like. Until next time!
