Dingle – Day 3

Well believe it or not, the streak continues. 10th straight day of no rain! Woo Hoo! They were calling for rain so I had planned mostly indoor stuff. So today was my churches and pubs day (they go so well together in Ireland! Lol).

So I’ll just talk thru each set of pics. The first is my trusty new friend Barney. He sorta looks like a Barney doesn’t he? He greets me every morning and evening here at the BnB. He’s a good dog!

Pics 2 and 3 are the outside and inside of St Mary’s Church. It’s very modern inside.

Pic 4 is the Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Sacred Heart, inside the convent right behind St Mary’s Church. The sisters of this order came to Dingle in 1829 to educate local girls and help during the potato famine. The chapel was built in 1884.

Pic 5 is St James Church. Since the 13th century a church has stood here. It’s now closed to the public during the day and only used for music occasionally in the evenings. Interesting factoid – Amy Winehouse filmed her “One Shining Moment” TV concert here in 2006.

Pic 6 is the Temperance Hall which dates back to a 19th century church-promoted movement that attempted to cut down on the consumption of alcohol. To this day Ireland truly does have a serious drinking problem and this building is now used for AA meetings.

Pic 7 and 8 are the inside and outside of Curran’s Pub. This was once owner James Curran’s grandmother’s general store. The same shelves grandma used for jams and socks are today stocked with beer and whiskey. If you look closely at the picture in the middle of the shelves, it’s of actor Robert Mitchum. He frequented this pub regularly while filming Ryan’s Daughter in 1969.

Pic 9 is the inside of Dick Mack’s Pub. The Pub was established in 1899 by great-grandpa Mack whose mission was to provide “liquid replenishment” for any travelers passing thru. The current owner, Finn Mack, who is in the picture, not only maintains the pub but has made it popular for hand crafted belts. He’s working on some in the pic. Their motto is “Step up and get waisted”. Lol.

Pic 10 is me praying to the big shamrock outside Dingle Pub to keep the no rain streak alive!

Pic 11 is all that fish I caught yesterday that they cooked up for me at John Benny’s Pub. It was soooo tasty! There’s nothing like fresh caught seafood.

The final pic 12 is me enjoying a little bit of the craic at Dingle Pub. This little trio could bang out the Irish music!

Happy Hump Day to all!
