Thursday 5/23/19 – Part 1 – Today I got way off the beaten path and visited two sea side villages along the coast of Spain. I enjoyed them both so much and took so many pictures I’m splitting today’s entry in two. The two places were Pasaia and Hondarribia. This first part will be about Pasaia.
I took the bus about 20 minutes along the coast to this quaint little town. I felt like I was back in the Cinque Terre in Italy. The town is actually divided in two and you have to take this cute little boat (see the pic of “Gure Torre”) that only holds about 20 people to get back and forth. The one side is called Pasaia San Pedro while the other side is Pasaia Donibane. On the Donibane side (which is where I mostly hung out), the main little town square is lined on one side by a long row of tall narrow typical fisherman’s houses. Victor Hugo’s house is also there where he lived in 1843. There was a nice walkway along the water out to where it opens up into the ocean.
A couple fun facts about Pasaia… it is the birthplace of the famous international designer Paco Rabanne. And that Lafayette set sail from here to fight along side America in the Revolutionary War.
I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking. I really liked the picture menu on the wall… really helped with my Spanglish! Lol. It was a fun place to visit!
