I went hiking in the morning and then watched lots of hiking in the afternoon (i.e. the Super Bowl!) Sorry for the corny jokes but I've been here almost a week and I'm getting loopy! LOL. Well I started my day extra early again at 6:30 AM (you know sleep really is overrated!) and did the Waihe Ridge Trail. On the way there I saw a cruise ship pulling into harbor just as the sun was rising, very cool scene. When I got to the trail parking lot there was actually one crazy person already there but they were already on the trail. This hike was really fun but very tiring. It was pretty much a straight up hike for about 2.5 miles to an elevation of 3500 feet. The 360 degree view from up there was amazing! There were even helicopters flying into the valley to give people tours but I was higher up than they were! And I was surprised that very few people were on the trail. I only saw about 10 people the whole time (probably because it was so early!). After the hike, I decided to take a little "Sunday morning drive" around the northwest part of the island. Well I thought the Hana highway was bad, this thing was crazy scary! There'd be whole sections of single lane road where there'd be little room to get around if another car showed up. I got lucky most of the way and not many people were driving it but this one time, a guy came and luckily he had a 4 wheel drive jeep and pretty much had to go up on the hillside so I could get around him. Crazy! But of course the views were spectacular since you were hugging the mountainside and looking down into the ocean. Wild stuff! I then made it back just in time to watch the Super Bowl. Wow, what a game! So glad the Patriots lost (I can't have them catching up to the Steelers with Super Bowl wins!) It came on here about 1:00 or so, so it felt just like a regular Sunday afternoon of football. I have to admit, I didn't have all the good food I'd normally have at a good old super bowl party back home but it was nice to go catch a sunset after the game. Not too shabby! Hope everyone has a great Monday! Jeff
