Salzburg – Day 1

WOW, another day another beautiful Austrian city! Salzburg, also tied into salt, has a population of 150,000. It’s name came from the trading of salt (Salz) defended by a castle (Burg) – Salz-Burg. The castle sits up high from the city and you’ll see it in the pics. I hiked up there (well, OK, I took the funicular!) to take a couple of the pics and tour the castle. One has me with the view towards the city and the other side looks out towards the Alps. It’s not right at the base of the Alps like Innsbruck but close enough.

Of course I stumbled on to another big festival that was happening today. It was actually like a big carnival with rides and games and lots and lots of food booths. In the one pic I loved that they put the pretzel booth right in front of the cathedral given their somewhat religious love for pretzels! And there of course had to be an Austrian band playing all dressed up in their garb and they were really fun to listen to and get the crowd involved. Got a video if anyone wants to see it.
And you can’t mention Salzburg without noting that it was the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He spent most of his 25 years here. I even caught him suspended in mid-air! Lol
Well I’ll keep it short today and let the pictures do the talking.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
