Munich – Day 4

As they say, what a difference a day makes. Yesterday, while very powerful, was a somber day. But today was nothing but blue skies, beautiful lakes and another amazing castle!

I spent the day with Peter and Waltraut again and they took me to another one of Mad King Ludwig’s castles called Herrenchiemsee. Ludwig patterned this castle after the Palace of Versailles in France since he was enamored with King Louis the 14th (the Sun King). The castle’s main floor was patterned entirely after Versailles even having the same Hall of Mirrors room. (They didn’t allow me to take any pictures inside.). We had a guided tour through the castle and she said that Ludwig only lived in the castle for 10 days after it was built, then he mysteriously died. Bummer!
The outside gardens, grounds and fountains were also replicas of Versailles. The fountains were like works of art!
The whole complex was on two different islands so we had to take boats across this beautiful lake with the Alps in the background. Everywhere looked like a post card.
So the castle was on the one island and the other island had a church and monastery. That’s the white building with the black onion dome. We walked all around that island and the views everywhere you looked were incredible.
We ended our day with each having some smoked fish caught fresh from the lake. It may look weird but it was so tasty!
Well they are gluttons for punishment and asked me to spend the day with them again tomorrow and for dinner they’re roasting a fresh duck. Quack quack! Lol.
Happy Hump Day to all! I’m especially thinking about and praying for all my family and friends in the Carolinas with Hurricane Florence heading your way. Be safe!

PS: As you’ll see from the pics, we brought our Indiana Jones gear out for an encore! Lol
