Fussen – Day 1

Well I feel like I’ve come full circle back to Rothenburg. I took the train from Munich to Fussen today. It is this quaint little town (population 14,000) that is medieval looking with a castle and a town wall. (Sound familiar? Lol). I think it’s sorta at the base of the beginning of the Alps since I’m right on the Germany/Austria border. The mountains are good sized but I don’t think as big as when I get to Salzburg and other parts of Austria.

I really like my B&B I’m staying at. It’s only about a 5 minute walk out of the Old Town area in this cute little suburbia section. And it has a great view of the Alps (pic).

I found this interesting church that had it’s front painted red with very elaborate drawings (pic). It’s called the church of the Holy Spirit. On the right side is a huge painting of St Christopher with the baby Jesus on his shoulder.

The High Castle (Hohes Schloss) is really cool and has some nice views towards the town and the Alps.

Then like always happens when traveling you just sort of run across interesting cultural things showing the area’s local customs. I found this dancing and singing routine of these kids (and adults) all dressed up in their Alps type garb with lederhosen and feathered caps. The men were also doing the slap dancing where they kick their legs up and slap their knees and legs. Very interesting to watch. I included a pic of the cute kids but if anybody wants to see a video just email me.

It was another fun day in Germany where I felt like I was back in medieval times!

I again want to say I’m thinking about and praying for all my family and friends in the Carolinas. I hope Flo goes easy on you and you all are safe, dry and have power. Hang in there.
