Happy Friday all! So I had to change hotels today but it was a breeze since the public transportation here is so good. While I am more of a smaller off the beaten path village kinda guy, you gotta hit the big cities for the history and grand architecture. But one of the other things is usually the great mass transit they have and Budapest’s is top notch. Between their subway, trams and buses, you can zip around town fast, safe and cheap.
Since I was already staying up on Castle Hill yesterday, I decided to hit two tourist spots up there in the morning which were the Matthias Church (which I sent pics of yesterday of the outside) and what’s called the Hospital in the Rock. The inside of the church was beautiful and also packed with tourists! The Hospital in the Rock tour was interesting. It was an underground network of a Hospital and bomb shelter used from World War II to the Cold War.
I then headed over to my new hotel and got checked in and settled. I used the afternoon to just explore more of the city. I included some pics showing the interesting architecture as well as the lobby of the Opera House. They are renovating the outside so I couldn’t get a pic but I hear it is gorgeous. I also included a pic of Heroes’ Square which is Hungary’s tribute to their historic figures. I walked a little into their “Central Park” and got a chuckle out of the little “boat cars” people could paddle across the lake with.
I ended the day with a “Free” night walk thru part of the city and really enjoyed all the history the guide shared about Hungary. I included a few night pics as well.
That’s all for now. TGIF!
